How to access doctor, nurse or health care assistant appointments

All surgeries are by appointment only.

You may arrange a routine review with any Doctor within the practice. Please advise the receptionist of your preference.

The doctors usually allow 10 minutes for each consultation. Although this is longer than many practices set aside, it may be possible to only cover one health problem in that time.

You will be asked about the kind of problem or symptoms you have when making an appointment. This enables us to offer you the most appropriate help or appointment. All such discussions are of course strictly confidential. See later for our confidentiality code of conduct.

We aim to see patients with urgent problems on the same day. However, it may not be possible to see the doctor of your choice.  Such appointments are for the one urgent problem only.

The time allowed for nurse appointments varies according to the reason for the appointment.

Appointment System

We are now operating an appointment system to enable patients to be seen within 48 hours. We also offer a limited number of bookable routine appointments.

We also offer an internet booking service.  Please contact reception to obtain details of this.

Telephone Consultation Appointments with the Doctors

Each day there are telephone appointments made available for patients. These can be used for the following:

  • Follow ups (following a face to face consultation)
  • Results
  • Advice
  • Medication reviews

Extended Hours

We are pleased to offer evening and weekend appointments with both the Doctor and the Nurse. These are most useful to patients who work between 8am and 6 pm. All consultations are by pre-arranged appointment.

The surgery is not open for general enquiries or prescriptions during these times.

Cervical Smears

There is now a walk-in service for Cytology Screening (Smear tests) which is open to all ladies age 25 and over.

You can go to:

Hanley Health Centre, Huntbach Street, Hanley ST1 2BN
Mondays 9.30am - 11.30am

or

Ryecroft Health Centre, Broad Street, Newcastle ST5 2BQ  Thursdays 5.30pm - 7.30pm.

We still offer cervical smears by appointment.
